For starters, we don’t have a standard bank account!

Secondly, Standard Bank will never SMSes asking for personal or financial information. This is a common phishing scam.

What to do if you receive a suspicious SMS:
  • Don’t click on any links in the SMS
  • Don’t open any attachments in the SMS
  • Block the number
  • Delete the SMS immediately
  • Forward the SMS to phishing@standardbank.co.za
  • Report the incident to your local South African Police Service (SAPS) station
How to avoid phishing or smishing:
  • Don’t share personal or financial information with anyone, even if they claim to be from Standard Bank
  • Be wary of unsolicited emails, phone calls, or visits
  • Hover over links in emails to confirm the website’s legitimacy
  • Enter website URLs manually instead of clicking on links in emails or SMS
  • Report suspicious activity to Standard Bank as soon as possible
What to do if you suspect fraud:
  • Call Standard Bank’s fraud line at 0800 222 050
  • Contact the major credit bureaus in South Africa, such as TransUnion, Experian, and Compuscan
  • Monitor your bank and credit card statements for any unauthorized activity
